Whether you want to make good on your New Year's resolutions from Day One or you need a little hair of the dog to help you recover from New Year's Eve, there's a kitchen in metro Phoenix serving a relaxing brunch with you in mind. Stop by one of these six restaurants on Wednesday, January 1, to ensure your first taste of 2014 is a delicious one.

The Herb Box

You don't have to worry about anything more than rolling out of bed to make it to this New Year's Day brunch. PJs are encouraged. Brunch favorites include red velvet pancakes with mascarpone crème and Gran Marnier syrup, Brussels sprout hash and Manchego omelet with pancetta and tomatoes, and chilaquiles verde with eggs, Cotija, and pulled pork in a crisp corn tortilla. The Southbridge location, serving brunch from 9 to 11 a.m., will be offering a complimentary Detox Green Smoothie Soup with organic spinach, mint, parsley, celery, and ginger, plus a free cake pop to celebrate the restaurant's third anniversary. To reserve a seat, call 480-289-6160.

Petite Maison

This three-course brunch includes unlimited champagne and mimosas for $35 per person. Appetizers include banana bread French toast, house-smoked salmon with caper berries, and lobster poutine with lobster gravy. There are five entrées to choose from, such as traditional hoppin' Josh hash with grilled Andouille and black-eyed peas, the "Reviver" mac 'n' cheese with smoked lardons, and roasted flat-iron steak with eggs over easy and country potatoes. Finish brunch with foie gras beignets, scotch bread pudding, or a Tylenol "shooter." Call 480-991-6887 for reservations, available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Essence Bakery Café

If you're the early-to-bed, early-to-rise type who can't make it to midnight on New Year's Eve, this local favorite will be up by sunrise to welcome you into 2014. Whether you head to the original location in Tempe or the new digs in Arcadia, you're sure to find fresh-baked croissants and other goodies, like brioche French toast with toasted hazelnuts and banana-caramel sauce. Organic breakfast options include a sausage-filled puff pastry with mushrooms and Gruyere, quiche with bacon and spinach, an egg sandwich with melted Dubliner cheese on toasted bread, and huevos Frenchos topped with avocado and fresh tomato salsa. The Tempe location opens at 7 a.m., and Arcadia opens at 6:30 a.m.

Pomegranate Café

Get a running start on your health-conscious New Year's resolutions at this Ahwatukee restaurant, which specializes in locally sourced organic vegetarian and vegan cuisine. Brunch is served daily from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. and includes acai berry parfait with cashew cream, seasonal tofu scramble with farm vegetables and smoked apple sage "sausage," and the green garden protein bowl with scrambled eggs or tofu, vegetables, kale, avocado, and macadamia-basil pesto. Enjoy your favorite breakfast item with an espresso drink like Maca Warrior Mocha made with almond coconut milk and Sunwarrior protein powder.

District American Kitchen and Wine Bar

Stop by to enjoy the District Harvest Table, a complete breakfast experience for $17.95. The buffet includes biscuits and gravy, sausage, applewood smoked bacon, steel cut oats, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt, assorted breads and pastries from Jonathan Robins Bakery, and beverages like juice and Starbucks coffee. For an additional $3, make your own hair of the dog at the Bloody Mary Bar, or enjoy a delicious mimosa. Other specialty cocktails include the Bloody Bourbon featuring Schriener's chorizo and the Five Chili Bloody Mary. Breakfast will be served from 6:30 a.m. to noon. For more information, call 602-817-5400.
