New Restaurant Alert

Jobot Owner John Sagasta Opening Ice Cream Shop in Downtown's Roosevelt Row

Rezbot, John Sagasta's shop of late-night Native American food, may have closed a little over a month ago, but the Jobot Coffee owner already has plans for the space.

You could even say they were pretty cool (sorry).

"I was looking for a concept that wouldn't require a lot of interaction by the city," Sagasta tells me. "And ice cream seemed to be it."

Ready for some frozen fun? Read on.

Through a friendship with Casey Stechnij, owner of Superstition Farm and Udder Delights Ice Cream, who Sagasta met through his urban convenience store Bodega 420, the new ice cream parlor will feature 20 Udder Delights classic and off-the-wall homemade flavors (think salted caramel and mint chocolate chip as well as black licorice and sour apple). Some of the flavors will rotate.

And similar to the Udder Delights store in Gilbert, Sagasta plans on offering shakes and floats, in addition to a few light pastries.

Sagasta tells me he hopes to open the new ice cream shop, located next door to Jobot at 910 North Fifth Street in Roosevelt Row, in another month or so. He hasn't set the hours yet, but he says he'd like to stay with the late-night theme, perhaps noon to midnight throughout the week.

Will Sagasta's ice cream parlor's name follow the "bot-ness" of Jobot and the defunct NachoBot and Rezbot?

"We're playing around with Melt for now," Sagasta says. "But it's kind of hard for people to get. Some of them think we're saying MILF."
