Just last month, in the run up to the Super Bowl -- the day when nearly every American enjoys a deep-fried, sauce-slathered hot wing or 20 -- the world was buzzing with rumors of an impending chicken wing shortage.

Apparently, the crisis was averted, and for that we're grateful because it would have really put a damper on the Valley's third annual Wingstock event.

That's right. Grab a stack of wetnaps and a glass of milk cause we're expecting a hell of a lot of hot sauce.

On March 30 at Mesa Amphitheatre, local restaurants will gather to compete for reign over the wing-dom of the Valley and the title of "Wingstock King of Wings." Last year's contest included entries from local favorites such as Teakwoods and Long Wongs, as well as some larger establishments such as Tilted Kilt and Native New Yorker.

Attendees picked Native New Yorker as last year's overall champ, crowning Teakwoods with Hottest Wings. (The first annual event honored NY Boyz Subz and Wingz with the title.)

Besides the mountains of wings, they've also lined up a selection of local musicians to set the mood. For the big eaters and true wing lovers, there will of course be a wing-eating contest involving five pounds of hot wings and (we're assuming) another pound of antacids. For the kiddies, there will be an Easter Egg hunt with the Wingstock mascot, HENdrix, at 10:30 a.m.

Admission for Wingstock 2013 costs $5 in advance or $7 on the day of the event. Tickets are available online at the Mesa Amphitheatre website.

To get your hands on some wings, you'll also need wing coupons, which will be on sale at the event. $3 for 4 tickets or $10 for 14, with one coupon buying you one chicken wing.
