Now Open

The Pig's Meow Beer & Wine Bar, From the Owner of the Whining Pig, Is Now Open in Arcadia

Heads up, Arcadia, there's a new bar in the neighborhood and it comes courtesy of an experienced crew from some of CenPho's favorite drinking holes. As of Wednesday, October 15, the Pig's Meow, a beer and wine bar owned by Greg Malkin of The Whining Pig, is open for business.

The cozy spot is located at 3730 East Indian School Road, in the space formerly occupied by the Poor Little Rich Girl consignment boutique.

The Pig's Meow offers 20 tap handles and somewhere between 65 and 100 beers in the bottle and can. There also are 25 wines by the glass (soon to be 35) and Malkin says he'll launch a bottle program soon.

Eventually, he also plans to launch a growler program -- though it won't be like those you're familiar with around town. At The Pig's Meow, Malkin plans to offer "growler flights" that allow patrons to select several beers, which will be available for less than the typical price of a growler and will beer served in mason jars.

On the food side the options are limited, but drinkers can soak up the booze with one of the bar's five different $5 grilled cheese sandwiches that include the "*" with mango chutney, Swiss cheese, and capricoloa or the "#" with cream cheese, raspberry preservers, and Canadian bacon.

Malkin plans to add a few salads (that will also cost $5 each) and a roasted garlic board.

The bar offers happy hour from 3 to 8 p.m. everyday and all day Sunday, as well as reverse happy hour from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Thursday. The deals include a selection of $5 and $6 glasses of wine, $3 and $4 pints of beer, and $9 pitchers.

Like The Whining Pig, The Pig's Meow offers some fun options for entertainment including four different vintage game systems: Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and Atari. There's also a Lego wall, chalkboard walls, and a selection of board games including Cards Against Humanity, Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots, and Guess Who.

Eventually, Malkin says, he'd like to get back to spending the majority of his time at The Whining Pig, leaving the second spot in the capable hands of the Pig's Meow crew. The three bartenders -- Emily Bartok, Steven Border, and Shari VanWyck -- come from local drinking holes such as Sun Up Brewery and are all part owners of The Pig's Meow.
