New Tex-Mex Footlong Quarter Pound Coney from Sonic: Football Meets the Footlong

Football meets the footlong? Yeah, it's a bit of a stretch, especially when it's a Tex-Mex Footlong. But if Friday Night Lights has taught me anything, it's that Texas loves its football and 30-year-old actors who play teenagers.

Sonic's new Tex-Mex Footlong Quarter Pound Coney, available for a limited time, hails itself as "a plumper, juicier hot dog topped off with warm chili, crunchy Fritos corn chips, shredded cheddar cheese, diced onions, sliced jalapeños and zesty Southwest chipotle sauce." For about four bucks, you can get it with Coach Taylor Touchdown Tots. Kidding! Regular tots, yo!

Did Sonic score with their Tex-Mex football footlong? What's a tater taunt? And will Tim Riggins grow up already?

If you've had Sonic's Regular Footlong Quarter Pound Coney, you know what you're in for size-wise (hint: split with a friend.) It's a solid dog on a decent bun that's not shy with the toppings. And while I enjoyed the abundance of jalapeños and the flavor of the chipotle sauce, the cheese tasted like the nuked crap that you find on top of movie nachos, and if you don't get to the Fritos fast enough, they start getting soggy. Ew.

Continuing the football meets footlong saga, go here to enter Sonic's Flavor Touchdown Sweepstakes where you could win a VIP football trip for six to the bowl game of your choice.

Oh, and you can also play Tater Taunt. A game in which you can send barbs spoken by a tater tot in a football helmet to unsuspecting recipients -- it's fun for all of about five seconds. Shut up already, tot, and jump in my mouth!
