Bruegger's Bagels may be just another national chain adding new locations throughout the Valley this year, but chances are it's the only one holding a Guinness World Record.

In 2004, the Vermont-based company with over 300 locations in 26 states, created the World's Largest Bagel (weighing a gut-busting 868 pounds) at the New York State Fair -- the state where the company was founded and where it's best-selling product, a variety of New York-style water boiled bagel, was developed.

For now, a second record-breaking bagel isn't in the company's sights, but what is (at least in North Phoenix) is a new Bruegger's Bagels location opening on Monday, October 29, at 6819 North 16th Street (southern corner of North 16th and East Glendale in the Squaw Peak Plaza).

And there are five more locations on the way.

Open for breakfast and lunch, the new Bruegger's will feature its signature bagels (baked onsite) as well as sandwiches, salads, soups, and desserts. The restaurant also has a "Under 500 Calorie" menu which includes thin-sliced, skinny bagels.

The new Bruegger's is the third location in the Valley (currently there is one in the Biltmore area and a drive-thru-only location in Glendale) and marks the first of six planned openings for the franchisee over the next few months. Of the remaining five, three more are planned for the greater Phoenix area and two will be located in Scottsdale.

Hours of operation are 5:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For details, go here.
