Just because Bar Louie wasn't right for Mill Avenue in the 1990s doesn't mean it's not right for Tempe Marketplace in 2012 -- right?

Maybe.

The national chain, which debuted in Chicago in 1991 and refers to itself as a "urban bar," is trying the Valley again after failed attempts on Tempe's Mill Avenue and in Glendale. The Tempe Marketplace Bar Louie, which opened last week in the former D'Arcy McGee's space, is the first Bar Louie in Arizona since the Glendale location closed in 2009.

Here's what bar-goers can expect.

To celebrate their new location, Bar Louie will give its guests signature martinis for a buck and a free small plate from 6 to 9 p.m. through Sunday, October 28.

In addition to the martinis and other cocktails such as mojitos and margaritas, Bar Louie will also offer wine (over 20 by the glass) and microbrews. On the food side, expect small plates, sandwiches, flatbreads, and burgers. For menu details, go here.
