"Plant This Movie" Screening TomorrowHead to The Farm at Agritopia in Gilbert tomorrow to check out a screening of "Plant This Movie," a new film that "explores the zeitgeist of urban farming around the world." The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with mingling and food from Jeff Kraus of Crêpe Bar and chef Adam Allison of Frank Food Truck. (By the way this will be Kraus' first time in a food truck in more than three years ago, so you can expect a don't-miss menu.) The movie screening will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be followed by music from local band Day Before Plastics. Entry to the event ranges from $7 to $12. 10th Annual Certified Local Fall Festival Saturday, November 8
Not only do you want to head to Portland Parkway (10 W. Portland Street in downtown Phoenix) this Saturday for the Certified Local Fall Festival, you really should try to be one of the first 500 attendees to arrive, all of whom will get a handmade gift bag with goodies from local businesses. The annual celebration of all things Arizona-made will go from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and is free to attend; food and drink tickets will be available for purchase on site for $1 each. The event will feature a handful of favorite local dining spots including The Arrogant Butcher, Windsor/Churn, The Parlor, Phoenix Public Market/St. Francis, and LGO Bake Shop/Greatful Spoon Gelato. There will also be an Arizona beverage garden with exclusively Arizona-made wine, beer, and spirits. Look for names such as Arizona Stronghold Vineyards, Four Peaks Brewery, Page Springs Cellars, Roger Clyne Moonshine, and Arizona Distilling Co. Artist in Residence Dinner feat. Celebrity Chef Aarti Sequeira Sunday, November 9
If you're a fan of shows such as The Next Food Network Star or Chopped, then you probably already recognize chef Aarti Sequeira, host of Taste in Translation on The Cooking Channel and winner of The Next Food Network Star Season 6. This Sunday the celebrity chef will be in town to help kick off the Artist in Residence dinner series at Lon's at The Hermosa. The evening will begin with a meet-and-greet, followed by a four-course wine-paired dinner prepared by the Lon's culinary team. The night will conclude with a salon-style evening; Sequeira will share "how-to's" on cooking with traditional Indian flavors and demo a recipe from her new cookbook AARTI PAARTI, An American Kitchen with an Indian Soul.
