Kick Ass Kakes, the cake-centric shop in Central Phoenix owned by artist-chef Jay Murphy -- who made CNN news in January for his lifesize Lady Gaga cake -- is expanding its sweet offerings.

In early August, Murphy, a graduate of Parsons School of Design and Scottsdale Culinary Institute, opened The Kak Shop at Union, the locally owned business concept at Biltmore Fashion Park.

Here's what sweet treat fans can expect. (Spoiler alert: macarons.)

The tiny Kake Shop at Union is less a shop and more a tiered glass case of smaller sweet offerings, like more than 20 flavors of macarons (try the Earl Grey tea with honey) for $1.50 each, as well as red velvet, chocolate, and flavor-of-the-day cupcakes, classic and designer sugar cookies, brownies, and mini designer cakes in chocolate-raspberry and vanilla-strawberry varieties.

And for those interested in custom cakes, a friendly Kak Shop associate can show you some examples via computer.
