Blasted Barley Beer Co. and Restaurant Is Now Open on Mill Avenue in Tempe

Heads up, Tempe! You've got a new dining destination that also will serve its own house-brewed beers -- eventually.

For now, the new Blasted Barley Beer Co. pours 30 craft beer varieties and a menu of elevated bar fare courtesy of executive chef Jason Shaw. The restaurant and brewery has taken over the former Tavern on Mill, a longstanding Tempe bar that closed its doors over the summer.

The brew house and restaurant opened its doors Friday, November 14, at 404 South Mill Avenue.

As far as the menu, you can look forward to dishes such as Lollipop Wings ($8), the restaurant's take on classic wings but served on a stick. Classic wings ($10) also available. There are also Little Meals on a Stick ($8), bacon-wrapped water chestnuts skewered with radish and cucumber served with honey sauce, and Curry Cauliflower No-Mac with Cheese ($10).

Some of the restaurant's menu items may look a little familiar. Take the Not-So Original Chop salad, for example. Made with arugula, couscous, crunchy corn, tomatoes, and pepitas, this dish is a riff on the famous Original/Stetson Chop Salad.

There are no Blasted Barley Beer Co. beers available just yet, but the restaurant expects to be able to unveil its own brews by the end of the year. There are plans for brews such as Strawberry Cream Dream, a "cream hybrid ale" and an Orange Chocolate Stout.
