Number 73: Coq au vin at Vincent's Market Bistro

I'm not sure why Vincent's Market Bistro, the casual sibling to award-winning chef Vincent Guerithault's famous Camelback fine dining restaurant, isn't name-dropped more often, given how good (and affordable) the food is and how welcoming the atmosphere is. This place has all the gracious service and top-notch fare that you'd expect from Guerithault.

Coq au vin is a signature dish, and for good reason. Tender free-range chicken practically falls apart when you touch it with your fork, and the sauce -- a heady ambrosia of red wine, onions, and mushrooms -- is so good you'll want to dunk your complimentary croissants in it to soak it all up. Luscious, buttery gratin dauphinois rounds out the plate.

Comfort food doesn't get more elegant than this.
