Downtown's First Friday (May 6)

Art walks are more often about people watching and shenanigans and less about the actual art. We're here to guide you through both. Presenting our very own Field Guide -- an evolving guide to art walks around town.

From time to time, we'll introduce some of our favorite spots and dish out some insider information. If you have any tips or tricks, share 'em in the comments section.

Here's a peek at our guide to Downtown's First Friday for May 6 ...

More First Friday hints and details after the jump ...

(Just a few) On the Map:

Pong! @ Pravus
Pravus will host its last exhibition, Pong!, with a collection of ping pong paddles and artwork from local artists. (We hear there might be a ping pong tournament on Third Friday, so you might want to start practicing ...) The gallery will open with a reception at 7 p.m. at 501 E. Roosevelt. For more information, see the Pravus website
Angela Cazel Jahn and Peter Bugg @ eyelounge
Cazel Jahn and Bugg will host a closing for their shows, "

- If you missed it, our eighth jackalope limited edition sticker, designed by Ryan Gentry, will be making its debut tonight! (Find a few at each location marked with a star on the map.)

- To embrace the shenanigans, check out the live music and art at Revolver Records on Roosevelt Street, at Bliss ReBar, at Bikini Lounge on Grand Avenue and all over Heritage Square.

- To avoid the shenanigans (and a sunburn), go early, walk around, and take home a piece of art before the bongos and snow cones arrive.

-- The Phoenix Art Museum has great parking (and great art, go figure). On-street parking is limited along Roosevelt Street between First and Seventh streets (Note: meters downtown are still checked until 8 p.m.). Or if you can nab a spot, check out the free street parking on Grand Avenue ...

Happy Friday!
