Since there's really no better accessory than a cocktail in your hand, each week brings you a tasty adult beverage from one of our favorite drinking establishments, complete with recipe.
This week: The Southwest Cucumber at Roxy's Great Escape.
Roxy's Great Escape is our new (not-so-)secret hideaway. Tucked away in a strip mall off Indian School between 40th and 44th streets, it's buzzing with the liveliness of an awesome neighborhood bar: A game of Yahtzee is being played at one end and another crowd of regulars is at the other. One guy mistakes us for his friend and gives us a big side hug. We already like it here.
Behind the bar, Holly whips up a spicy shooter she calls a Southwest Cucumber. The name says it all: Refreshing with a good 'ol Tabasco zing. Can you be as cool as a cucumber in a bowl of hot sauce? Bonus points if you get the reference... Click through to find out.

Ingredients
3 oz. Square One Cucumber Vodka
½ Lime
3-5 dashes Tabasco
Three simple steps: Pour the organic cucumber-infused vodka and the juice of half a lime in a shaker over ice. Shake it up and strain into a low-ball glass neat. Add three to five dashes of Tabasco depending on how much heat you can handle. We like it five-alarm hot.
First sip tastes a little off. It's cool, spicy and reminiscent of something familiar, but we're not sure what. Then it hits us: Warheads. Anybody else remember this crazy hot/sour yet oddly sweet candy?! Drinking a Southwest Cucumber is a similar experience to sucking on a Warhead: A complete mind warp for your mouth, hot on your lips, but you can't help but enjoy it.
We down our drink while music blares from the jukebox loaded with old school rock. You might catch Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Sweet Home Alabama" like we did, or if you're really lucky, The Beastie Boys' "So What'cha Want."
