If ever there was a time to wear that nifty U.S. flag bikini or bathing suit you picked up at American Apparel, it'd be over the next few days. Given that the Fourth of July is less than 24 hours hence, such star spangled swimwear would be appropriate ensemble if you're spending time lounging around the pool or merely dipping your toes into the water.

That goes double if you're attending any of the swim parties and special pool events that are occurring on either on Thursday, July 4, or throughout the upcoming weekend.

We've chosen to highlight five such events, and the list includes the return of a hipster favorite, a couple of bashes at hotels, and a more arty and fashion-oriented event on Sunday afternoon. Just make sure no one tries to pledge allegiance to you if you're sporting the stars and stripes.

Fourth of July Weekend at Maya Day and Nightclub Scottsdale's newest swim spot will be bringing some big names in order to bring the masses out to their venue in a big way over the holiday weekend. To wit: Cheeky British-born beat-juggler Fatboy Slim will jet across the pond for a headlining performance set at Maya's party on Thursday afternoon. General admission is $40 and the VIP treatment will run you $80. Tommy Lee, the debaucherous drummer for Mötley Crüe and all-around party fiend, is scheduled to DJ along with his cohort Aero at the joint on Sunday, July 7. Tickets are $15 to $50. Both events run from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m.

S.K.A.M. Artists Takeover at W Scottsdale Hotel Last year, the W was a popular place to be on Fourth of July. In fact, its crowded WET Deck was the site of the biggest and most stylish swim party of the holiday, if not last summer entirely. It's a good bet that 2013's version of the party on Thursday will be just as much of a place to be seen, and to see the fireworks being launched over Scottsdale after sundown. A cabal of knob-twisters from LA's S.K.A.M. Artists DJ collective -- including Sid Vicious, Samantha Ronson, and Chris Garcia -- will stage a "takeover" of the sound system starting at noon up until the skyrockets start exploding overhead at 9 p.m. General admission tickets are $15 and VIP cabanas and booth can be reserved by calling 480-970-2100.

All-American Pool Party at El Santo Short of flying Old Glory or piping in the national anthem, there's not much else that the proprietors of El Santo Cantina could do to imbue their Thursday pool party with American spirit. Burgers and hot dogs are gonna be sizzling on the grill, Budweiser (a.k.a. the self-proclaimed "Great American Lager") and Bud Light will be sold for $3, and there's gonna be red, white, and blue decorations about the place. There's even a tip of the hat to the notion of the "Land of the Free," as there won't be a cover and some of its cabanas, daybeds, and villas will be available for no fee. Nathan Reeser and Tranzit are scheduled to DJ. Doors open at 11 a.m.

Fourth of July Release at Talking Stick The colorful clamor and activity of Talking Stick's casino ain't the only sort of flashy action taking place at the resort on Thursday, as special edition of its Release Pool Party is scheduled for the holiday. DJ Circle and DJ Loczi will spin electronica and party rock starting at 1 p.m., fueling the hurly-burly of drinking and diving that will run until 6 p.m. Drink specials and giveaways are also on tap. Gates open at 11 a.m. Admission is free for ladies and $10 for dudes.

American Made Swim Party at Spanish Fly Old Town Scottsdale will get an influx of downtown Phoenix art scene cool via this afternoon-long fete starring the members of MissContstrued Boutique. Fashionista Reanna Diehl, designer Skky Brown, and other couture creatives from the Roosevelt Row shop will debut their latest pieces and ensembles at "The Fly" on Sunday, July 7. A runway will be set up for a trunk show during the event, and various raffles and giveaways, beer pong games, and other contests are also scheduled to take place. The Girls of MissContstrued will also appear. The party starts at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
