One new idea for every day in 2011. We're talking big, small, local, international, in action and on the drawing board. Here's today's -- what's yours?

Right now, thousands of miles away, a ragtag group of artists, performers, and engineers are piecing together a boat that will float down the Ganges.

Their idea is simple: create a mobile, inhabitable sculpture that grows as it travels (mostly from found pieces of ... everything) and engages with the local communities it floats through. The execution is a bit more difficult.

This is the group's first venture beyond their traditional route down the Mississippi River. They auctioned off their own art, built a basic, floating structure and shipped it to India. The group, called Swimming Cities, was recently sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts, and will officially set "sail" in mid-April. The 400-mile course will take them a month or so to travel.
