The Arizona Pornstar Ball 2012: For Those Who Love Porn (or Want to Star in One)

Some dudes are more than eager to fork over $24.95 a month to see local porn starlets Priya Rai and Taryn Thomas either on DVD or via the Internet.

Valley party promoter Chuck Huus, however, is hoping they'll be eager to spend that same amount for the opportunity to meet with Rai, Thomas, and dozens of other adult film actresses in person (as opposed just watching them onscreen) at next month's annual Arizona Pornstar Ball.

"There are a lot of girls who do porn here in the Valley that will be at the ball," Huus says. "A lot of stars coming out here from L.A. to be here too. Every day someone else is calling me, asking if they can get a signing table."

Local skin flick fans willing to step out from behind the anonymity of their computers and attend the event, which takes place during the first weekend in March at Tempe's 910 Live, will be able to interact and with such stars as Dylan Ryder, Kayla Carrera, and Candy Manson.

Ironically, Huus says, the desire to meet porn stars in the, uh...flesh is one of the reasons why he and the other members of Coolin' Out Worldwide (a local clothing company and DJ collective) created the ball three years ago.

The 35-year-old nightlife impresario, who was b-boy performer with the renowned Tempe Bronks Krew hip-hop collective back in the 1990s and also a onetime MMA fighter, says he and his partners previously held numerous sinful soirées and one-off parties at Valley strip clubs like Pink Cabaret that featured adult film stars like Rai. In 2009, they decided to "kick things up a notch" with a much bigger porn-themed event and invite some of their favorite actresses to appear.

"We're all just into porn and music and have a lot of friends in the [both those] industries. There were a couple girls like Bree Olson that we thought, 'Oh man, we gotta get this girl or that girl to come out here for a big event,' because we were fans." he says. "That's pretty much how the first ball got started."

Thus, the event debuted during NBA's All-Star Weekend 2009 at the now-defunct Babylon Showclub and attracted hundreds, including rapper Too Short and members of the Arizona Cardinals roster. (Read our review here)

After holding the ball at local strip clubs the first three years, Huus says, they're moving it to more of a discotheque and will transform it into a two-day-long event that's "part porn convention, part nightlife event" in order to increase the number of porn-loving patrons.

It's like the AZ version of the infamous AVN Adult Entertainment Expo and trade show that takes place every January in Las Vegas, Huus says, albeit on a much smaller level.

"We thought, lets just have our own mini-convention and we'll add a nightlife twist," he says.

During the afternoon hours, autograph sessions and meet-and-greets will take place while vendors hawk their blue movies. Since the Valley's also a major haven for online pornmakers (read our 2009 cover story on the subject), Huus says a few locally based companies will also be on hand, should anyone of the female persuasion harbor a desire to become an adult film actress.

After dark, however, a variety of live entertainment and adult-oriented salacious fun is planned. Besides gigs by a lineup of hip-hop superstars, Rider and some of the featured porn stars will strip, the topless aerialists of the POLEformers troupe (the "Cirque Du Soleil of pole dancing," says Huus) will pull out some twisting and turning trickery, and both a "Best Chest in the Southwest" and a "Hottest Hiney" contests will take place. Half-naked dancers from local clubs will also trade blows and bodyslams during stripper cage fighting bouts.

Needless to say, Huus says, the ball's patrons will get an eyeful.

"910 Live has a license for topless dancing only, but you'll still see a lot," he jokes. "No one will get completely naked though. As much as I'd love to see that, the place would get shut down."

The Arizona Porn Star Ball takes place on Saturday, March 3, and Sunday, March 4, at 910 Live, 910 North McClintock Drive in Tempe. Tickets are $25 pre-sale, $50 for VIP access. Click here for more info.
