Puff up your pom-pons and shine up your tiara, because it's time for a homecoming -- Laurie Notaro's.

The humorist/potty mouth returns to Arizona this week for a lecture and book-signing at ASU's Polytechnic campus Tuesday, September 17.

The New York Times best-selling author, occasional New Times contributor, and former writer for The State Press at Arizona State University spent her summer touring the country with her latest collection of short stories, The Potty Mouth at the Table.

Notaro lives in Eugene, Oregon, and grew up in Phoenix. Lucky for us, she returns to the Valley fairly frequently for things like book-signings, Lit Lounge appearances, and workshops.

She's written such enjoyable (and hilarious) books as The Idiot Girls' Action-Adventure Club: True Tales from a Magnificent and Clumsy Life, It Looked Different on the Model: Epic Tales of Impending Shame and Infamy, and I Love Everybody (and Other Atrocious Lies): True Tales of a Loudmouth Girl.

Notaro's an expert on making us crack up. And she'll share her tips for finding the funny in your own stories during her talk "Cracking Up! Humor Between the Lines in Literature and Writing." The free talk will also touch on best practices for comedic timing, relatability, and how to balance writing for an audience while also writing for yourself.

ASU's student-produced literary magazine Superstition Review presents the event, which runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 17, in Cooley Ballroom at ASU's Polytechnic campus. In addition to the talk, Notaro will read, engage in a Q&A session, and sign books, which will be available for purchase at the event. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP on Facebook.
