2. Vernacular Typography
Molly Moodward has been photographing more than 5,000 examples of urban typography she finds in cityscapes and signs for the past 10 years, and has organized each by place and category on VernacularTypography.com. Her collection includes signs in Argentina, The Bahamas, Chile, Cuba, England, France, Italy, Japan, Spain, and the U.S.. She writes:
All over the world, beautiful examples of vernacular lettering are in danger of being replaced by disposable signs that represent large global corporations.Typography is a powerful marker of regional identity and has a remarkable ability to capture the local character of a particular time and place.
Moodward just launched a Kickstarter to help build and support her digital archive. Check it out here.
