The annual
Arizona Governor's Arts Awards recognizes local artists, organizations, educators, businesses, and individuals for contributions to the local arts and culture scene.
The
Arizona Commission on the Arts announced
nominations for the 2011 awards in February and celebrated the winners last week.
Awards were given to the following:
Artist: Martin Moreno, founding member of
Arizona Latino Arts and Cultural Center, owner of
Cuervo Studio and Gallery, and well known local muralist.
Arts in Education (individual): Ann Ludwig, owner of A. Ludwig Dance Theatre.
Arts in Education (organization): Tonto Community Concert Association
Business: Cox Communications
Community: Free Arts for Abused Children of Arizona
Individual: Carol D. Whiteman, co-founder of the Arizona Theatre Company.
