Each Monday, Up on the Sun starts its week with a missive from cartoonist Brad Dwyer.
Dwyer earned attention with his self-published collections, Epic Tales of the Mundane, and his Record Heat series for UOTS parallels the themes of Epic Tales...: melancholy, punk rock, geekery, and a bruised-and-battered optimism, all rendered with Jack Kirby-inspired art and the occasional foray into Eastman and Laird-like pop culture explosions.
We print each strip in our print edition every Thursday, but fans looking to get an even closer look at Dwyer's punk rock art are in luck: On Friday, November 30, Meat Market Vintage in Tempe will host an art show dedicated to Dwyer's work. And what would a punk rock art show be without some music? Phoenix-based pop punkers Dogbreth and shambolic folkies Where Are All the Buffalo will take care of that.

"The majority of it is just black-and-white, pen-and-ink drawings, but there's a little bit of mixed media kinda stuff," Dwyer explains. "I might throw in a page of comic strips depending on how some of this stuff I'm working turns out. But it's mostly full-page illustrations, some of which I've used for show fliers."
Dwyer also promises a "big ass" acrylic print of legendary tough guy Charles Bronson.
The show marks a busy weekend for Dogbreth as well; not only does the pop-punk outfit do its thing on Friday night in Tempe, but also Monday, December 3, when they will share the Trunk Space stage with Math the Band. Where Are All the Buffalo, a staple at the Trunk Space as well, recently released its debut self-titled EP.
Dwyer is looking forward the show: "I'm just happy that anyone gives a fuck about what I draw."
The Meat Market Vintage art show starts at 6 p.m., and music starts at 8 p.m. on Friday, November 30.
