It's almost that time of year to enjoy funnel cakes and ferris wheels again, as the Arizona State Fair approaches. The event is known for its games and attractions, but don't look past the musical entertainment.
The festival has started by releasing a few names that will be coming to town, with more to be announced in the following months. As of right now, the list of artists slated to perform include Barenaked Ladies, Sublime with Rome, and Darius Rucker.
The State Fair has much more than making sure there are musical guests to perform, but public relations director Jeannie Berg says it enhances the experience.
"We offer such a wide variety of exhibits and attractions, and there's the food, rides, and animal attractions," Berg says. "I don't think it's just the concerts that drive people to the fair. I think it's a variety of things, but concerts certainly help."
The stages have seen artists like Snoop Dogg and Korn perform at past fairs, so the fair certainly covers a wide spectrum of genres. The influence on who performs comes from whom the festival has in mind, as well as attendees.
"I believe there's some feedback that they incorporate into their selection, but it's not it's not just anyone that can play it," Berg says. "They actively seek people that would be attractive to our demographic. There's so much that goes into it. It's a very complicated decision."
Beyond the excitement and speculation of who else may be added, the Arizona State Fair will be featuring a new attraction titled the "Hall of Heroes." This new experience will take immerse fairgoers on what it's like to be a superhero, while featuring many of the popular characters.
"People want to experience something new and different," Berg says. "So, it really makes a difference for us to be able to offer them something like the "Hall of Heroes," which is all about superheroes, which are very, very popular right now."
