Last week, indie movie rental hub Movies On Central suddenly closed. This week, Vintage Fashion owner David Sheflin signed a lease to take over the space, which is located in the Xavier Square retail center on Central, just south of Camelback. The retail center is also home to specialty shop Unique On Central, Lola Coffee, and Haus Modern Living.
Sheflin's Vintage Fashion has long offered an assortment of rare and high-end fashion finds: vintage gowns, costumes, and jewelry by the likes of Diane Von Furstenburg, Halston, and Rudi Gernreich. But Sheflin's salon has been exclusive and by-appointment-only. He says the new location in Movies On Central's old space will be open to the public and will have regular hours.
"This is gonna be really special. I won't have my whole inventory. It will be more like a museum," Sheflin says. "We'll have things from designers from the 60s through the 90s, all high-end. We'll also have vintage couture, vintage costumes, designer jewelry, and decorative arts."
Sheflin says the new space will probably be called Vintage Fashion, Inc., and he's shooting for an October opening.
