One man is dead and another is injured after a shootout in west Phoenix last night.
According to the Phoenix Police Department, the double shooting happened around 7 p.m. yesterday, when two men exchanged gunfire in the area of 71st Avenue and Thomas Road in Phoenix.
The victims' identities have not been released. Police haven't said what
prompted the shootout, and calls to the department were not immediately
returned.
Witnesses in the area told police one of the men opened fire while
driving down West Monterey Way in a dark-colored car, and the other man
returned fire.
When the smoke cleared, one of the shooters, a 24-year-old man, was
dead, and the other, a 27-year-old man, was injured. He was taken to a
hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
It's unclear what -- if any -- charges will be filed against the surviving shooter.
