Phoenix police have arrested two women in Wednesday's shooting of an Arizona Department of Public Safety officer, but still seek three other people.

Police put out a bulletin tonight with pictures of the three suspects who have "information pertinent to the investigation."

The officer, who hasn't been named, survived a shot to the face in the attack but remains hospitalized.

The 44-year-old officer had been conducting a traffic stop at about 3 a.m. on Wednesday in the parking lot of the Knights Inn motel near Interstate 17 and McDowell Road. As the officer walked up to the vehicle, a 2008 Mercury Sable with Kansas license plate number 887GAM, someone in the car shot him in the face.

The car drove off as the officer called for assistance, and two other DPS officers who were nearby arrived on the scene quickly. While they were helping the shot officer, the Mercury suddenly appeared from behind the motel, with at least one suspect shooting, according to information from Officer James Holmes, police spokesman. The officers returned fire as the car again took off.

Two women of five people believed to have been in the Mercury during the shooting were arrested and are now under questioning, Holmes says.

The three people being sought are: Danny Angel Vargas, 26; Ramon L. Bueno, 39; and Vanessa Martinez, 29.

Call Phoenix police at (602) 262-6141 or Silent Witness at (480) W-I-T-N-E-S-S if you know anything and want to help.

UPDATE: October 16 -- The two women were released without charges. Vanessa Martinez, pictured here, was detained briefly on October 12th and released without charges. On Thursday, suspects Ramon L. Bueno and Danny Angel Vargas were arrested.
