A woman allowed a car to hit her in a parking lot by sticking out her butt as it backed up, then claimed she was injured, Chandler cops say. The entire incident was captured on a surveillance camera.
The June 20 "accident" was investigated, but cops determined that they had a case of fraud on their hands, not a careless driver. They've submitted the case for prosecution.
Cops say the public should watch out for such scams, especially in areas with a lot of pedestrian and vehicle traffic.

On June 20, 2009, at about 3:00 p.m., a vehicle and pedestrian accident was reported to Chandler Police. The incident occurred in the parking lot of a Chandler business. There are two independent witnesses that saw the pedestrian intentionally stop behind a vehicle that is backing up. Video surveillance obtained from the business, shows the woman stopped in the middle of the aisle where she waited for the vehicle to get close to her. As the vehicle approaches her, she pushed her buttocks out in order for the vehicle to strike her. After several minutes of waiting for police and fire to respond, she carefully lays down on the ground. She is then observed getting back up back up and talking on the phone.
Upon arrival of medical personnel, she advised them she was injured and was transported to a hospital for her alleged injuries. Since the alleged victim requested police and medical services and filed an official police report, the case was investigated. The investigation has revealed that this is an attempted fraud and false reporting. Charges are pending. This may not be the first time this type of incident has occurred.
We encourage the public to be aware of these types of scams and take extra precautions when in an area where foot and vehicle traffic are heavy. If you become a victim of this type of fraud, please call the police and wait there until officers arrive.
