Phoenix police confirmed this afternoon that one of its own is facing felony domestic violence charges stemming from an incident at his Casa Grande home over the weekend.
In addition to being a Phoenix police officer, Armando Ramirez is a reserve in the United States Marine Corps. who just returned from a tour in Afghanistan in September. He rejoined the Phoenix P.D. on December 5.
Phoenix Sergeant Trent Crump says Ramirez -- a 5-year veteran of the department assigned to its problem-plagued South Mountain Precinct -- was arrested early Saturday morning.
Casa Grande police responded to Ramirez's home in the 1900 block of North Renford Lane after there were reports that multiple gunshots were fired.
Police determined Ramirez fired a weapon during an argument with his wife. No one was hurt during the incident, but Ramirez was taken into custody.
Crump says Ramirez has since been assigned to his home by the
department's Professional Standards Bureau until investigations are completed by both the Casa Grande Police Department and the Pinal County Attorney's
Office.
Crump says the P.P.D. "is extremely concerned about the alleged conduct of our employee and for the welfare of his family."
We've requested a copy of Ramirez's arrest report to get additional details. Check back for updates.
