Quayle, who was only rumored to be running until his father unofficially let the cat out of the bag in an interview on Fox News last month, is currently in a statistical dead heat with former state Senator Jim Waring and Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker for the seat.
As a Valley Fever reader dutifully pointed out in the comment section of a previous post: "I know Vernon Parker -- Vernon Parker is a friend of mine. Ben, you are no Vernon Parker."
We're not sure if that's more of a jab at Quayle or at the rookie politician Parker, but it gave us a laugh.
"I want to go to Washington to stop the expansion of government into our everyday lives," Quayle says. "It's time for the next generation to start cleaning up the mess created by the establishment in Washington."
We're sure he doesn't mean the "establishment" in Washington that really created the mess -- the George W. Bush administration. Now the GOP wants desperately to blame its mess on President Obama.
Quayle, 33, is a graduate of Vanderbilt University Law School.
Last month, it was reported that the younger Quayle has never voted in a local election.
"Like a lot of people my age, I haven't been involved in politics," Quayle told the Arizona Guardian. "I probably should have been more active, and that's my fault."
And now he's running for freakin' Congress?.
"I hope to build on John Shadegg's tireless representation of the 3rd District," Quayle says.
Given Shadegg's often bizarre antics on the floor of Congress, let's hope not.
