Arizona DUI Task Forces Rack Up 582 DUI Arrests Over Labor Day Weekend

DUI task forces around the state arrested 582 people on DUI charges over Labor Day weekend.

That's an increase over the same weekend in 2013, when the task forces arrested 503 people on DUI charges.

According to statistics provided by the Arizona Governor's Office of Highway Safety, the task forces actually reported encountering more than twice the number of sober designated drivers in 2014 (860) than in 2013 (354).

Nearly 2,000 police officers and sheriff's deputies were involved in the statewide patrols.

These DUI enforcement operations always take place on holiday weekends, and in 2014, Labor Day weekend has had the most DUI arrests of any other. Cinco de Mayo weekend resulted with 500 DUI arrests statewide, followed by 495 on Memorial Day weekend, 413 over St. Patrick's Day weekend, and 389 over Independence Day weekend.
