Heath Bell seems to have picked up right where injured closer J.J. Putz left off -- by blowing save opportunities.
Bell wrecked a (rare) phenomenal start from Arizona Diamondbacks starter Brandon McCarthy yesterday at Chase Field, in a game the D-backs would lose in 10 innings, settling for a tie in the four-game series.

McCarthy, who has not earned a win this season, and who entered yesterday's game with an earned-run average of 6.75, pretty much dominated the Phillies yesterday, as he pitched eight scoreless innings.
Bell came on in the ninth to record the save in the 2-0 game -- Gerardo Parra homered in the first, and A.J. Pollock singled home a run later that inning -- and gave up a lead-off double to Chase Utley.
Ryan Howard grounded out, but Utley advanced to third, and Delmon Young doubled, scoring Utley.
The Phillies scored another run off Bell as Domonic Brown hit in another run. Bell couldn't actually finish the inning, as Brad Ziegler had to come in to record the last out after Bell gave up a single to Carlos Ruiz.
With Matt Reynolds pitching for the Diamondbacks in the 10th inning, Jimmy Rollins singled, Chase Utley doubled, and Ryan Howard hit them both in with a single, to give the Phillies a 4-2 lead, which became the final score.
On Saturday, Cliff Lee pretty much dominated the D-backs, as he pitched seven scoreless innings. The D-backs' lone run came from a Cody Ross sacrifice fly in the eighth, and the Phillies' three runs scored were plenty.
After a win on Thursday, the D-backs were also able to pull out a win on Friday. Ian Kennedy gave up two runs early -- Rollins homered in the first, and Brown hit an RBI single in the first as well -- but Eric Chavez doubled home a run in the bottom of the first, and Martin Prado tied the game in the seventh with an RBI single.
Miguel Montero ended up getting the game-winning hit in the bottom of the eighth, as he pulled a fastball into the right-field foul pole for a solo home run. The Diamondbacks won that one 3-2.
Tonight, the D-backs start a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves, with Justin Upton's first game at Chase Field since being traded. Wade Miley gets the start tonight against Mike Minor.
