She's Beautiful When She's Angry

It’s been about 50 years since the second wave of feminism caught fire in the United States. The film She’s Beautiful When She’s Angry delves into this movement, specifically looking at the women who worked to create equal rights for women from 1966 to 1971. This bold film doesn’t shy away from anything, touching on the founding of NOW (National Organization for Women), WITCH (Women’s International Terrorist Conspiracy from Hell), and the controversies surrounding sexual orientation. A portion of the proceeds from the showing of this 92-minute film will go towards Planned Parenthood Arizona and Arizona Foundation for Women Young Professionals. "Textile Art for the Masses"

Lowell, Massachusetts, is home to a museum dedicated to fabrics. And while the American Textile History Museum is not likely interested in the $3 tank top you snagged from the discount bin at Forever 21, that’s not to say it doesn’t have its place in fashion history. Curator Karen Herbaugh will visit Phoenix Art Museum to discuss how, in a world before fast fashion and outsourced production, Associated American Artists brought artist-designed textiles and designs to middle-class Americans in the mid-20th century. Bar Flies

Walk into Charlie Levy’s underground Valley Bar on Thursday, June 18, and you can expect an earful. That’s the evening New Times and Levy will debut the reading series Bar Flies. Each month, a curator will bring in new readers who’ll tell stories surrounding a theme; fittingly, the first one is “firsts.” Starting at 7 p.m., attendees will hear stories from Sarah Hubbell, Kevin Vaughan-Brubaker, Tania Katan, Brad Snyder, and Katie Johnson.
