A new hot piece of real estate is going on the market in Scottsdale. But you'd better be quick because this house will be in Phoenix for only a few days.
It's the Monogram Modern Home, and it's traveling around the country to six different cities with Dwell magazine and Monogram, the modern appliance company. The 1,000-square-foot prefabricated home will be at Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art and Civic Center Mall on Friday and Saturday, June 26 and 27.
"[Guests] are not coming to an appliance demo, they're coming to an entire lifestyle show," Dwell president and CEO Michela O’Connor Abrams says.
These six cities — Portland, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Austin, Dallas, and Boston — were not just chosen at random for the tour. Abrams says the team behind the tour analyzed cities around the nation and chose to visit the ones where the housing economy has bounced back since the recession, where there has been a rejuvenation of home building and remodeling, and where a design-savvy market exists. Way to go, Phoenix. You made the cut.
Abrams says this event is going to be like nothing before. For one, she believes this is the first time a publication and appliance brand have built and designed a home for the purpose of touring it around the country.
But the Monogram Modern Home, built and designed by Dwell and Method Homes, isn't just meant to inspire visitors with beautiful design and architecture, though it will probably do that too.
Abrams says Dwell and Monogram want to educate visitors on some of the "most forward-thinking" technology on the market.
"People will actually come away saying, 'Wait a minute, this is the kind of experience I want to have in my kitchen, and Monogram allows me to do that,'" Abrams says.
On Friday, the accredited industry professionals and those seriously looking to learn more about design can sign up for Continuing Education Units taught by Monogram staff members in kitchen design, modern refrigeration, and cooking and venting technologies. There will also be a discussion with the Dwell Insights Group about "The New Face of Affluence."
For those who just want to see the $325,000 home, tours, culinary tastings by chef Hayley Christopher, and product demonstrations, including one on an induction top burner that can boil water in 45 seconds, will be available throughout the day on Saturday.
Either day you visit, we're pretty sure you'll walk away impressed.
"Being in that environment and this beautifully designed home, and having a chef, and then the credits, it is a much more transformative experience than if you would be in a classroom or if you were going to set up in a nondescript demo kitchen some place at a trade show," Abrams says.
