Emerging Arts Leaders Phoenix Happy Hour
Cheers to Phoenix’s arts scene. No, literally. During Emerging Arts Leaders Phoenix’s fourth and final summer happy hour, local makers, shakers, and observers are invited to discuss what’s wrong and what’s right with the Valley’s arts community — and, perhaps more importantly, what’s next. Inspired by New Times' story on the state of the arts in metro Phoenix, EAL is looking to engage opinionated and excited folks to solidify their topics of discussion for a fall conference. Head to Sun Up Brewery, 322 East Camelback Road, at 6 p.m. on Monday, August 10, to be a part of the action. Panel Discussion: Why Is There No Great Arizona Novel?
Is there a single, great Arizona novel? Tom Zoellner, former writer at the Arizona Republic, doesn’t think so. As discussion moderator, Zoellner, along with panelists Greg McNamee, Bill Wyman, Alberto Alvaro Ríos, and New Times contributor Deborah Sussman, will explore the question “Why is there no great Arizona novel?” in an event presented by New Times at Changing Hands Phoenix, 300 West Camelback Road. The panelists will reflect on Arizona’s 150-year literary heritage and look forward to what the future may hold to try to determine what, exactly, might constitute the great Arizona novel.

Life and Limb
Your lunch break doesn’t have to involve trying to dodge chatty coworkers while you scroll Facebook and wolf down a sandwich. Stuff your face while getting a midday culture fix at the Herberger Theater Center’s Lunch Time series. The current show, Life and Limb, features Marilyn Torres-Sierra, Mark Goldman, and Dustin Loehr weaving a combo of acting, dancing, and storytelling to explore life’s complexities.

Brown bag it or order from the venue when you get tickets, which are $6. This theatrical tour of human experience starts at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, at 222 East Monroe Street.
