Thanks to the spirit of giving, we're now in the spirit of saving. But just because our spending has been tapped out doesn't mean we can't still go out. This holiday season we're taking advantage of all the no-cost happenings around town. From ugly sweater comedy shows to steampunk-themed calls to artists and luminaria bike tours, here are our top three picks for free events in metro Phoenix this week.

Before you put yourself in a holiday food coma, Phoenix Spokes People, Arizona Bicycle Club, and the Tempe Bicycle Action Group invite you to take a two-wheel tour of one of the most beautiful historic neighborhoods in Phoenix. The Willo Luminaria Ride takes off 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23. Bikers are advised to meet at 6 p.m. at the Encanto Park parking lot on the north side of Encanto Boulevard between 15th and 12th avenues. For more information, visit the event on Facebook.
Copper Comedy Ugly Sweater Show
Put on your ugliest holiday pullover and head to Copper Blues for an evening of jokes with the Copper Comedy Ugly Sweater Show, happening from 7 to 10 p.m. on Tuesday, December 23. Enjoy beers on tap and comics on mic including Kirsten Alberts, Ian Gilb, Nathan Evangelista, Glendon Syn Black McGee, Chris Zuiker, Alex Harris, Patrick Keane, Danielle Arce, and Bri Gigér. For details, visit the event on Facebook.
After the presents have been unwrapped and the family has gotten tired of gathering around the Christmas tree on December 25, head to Lux Central for a very indie holiday party. The Lux Christmas party kicks off at 9 p.m. with music from local DJs Ben Linsenmeyer, Sean Watson, JayDHD, and a special set from the now L.A.-based artist Mija. Craft punch and beer will be available all night long. For further details on the festivities, visit the event on Facebook.
