Chow Bella's Eating Christmas

The holiday season is about two things: family drama (and embarrassment), and eating. From traditional and passed-down recipes to eggnog and Christmas cookies there will be eating. Lots of eating. For the third year in a row Chow Bella, the New Times award-winning blog on all things food, hosts "Eating Christmas" -- a night featuring tales from local writers and artists that have ranged from familial and religious guilt to a hatred of ham. Storytelling starts at 7 p.m., doors open at 6, on Tuesday, December 16, at Crescent Ballroom, 208 North Second Avenue. Admission to the 21-and-over event is free, though canned food donations, benefitting St. Mary's Food Bank, are encouraged. Call 602-716-2222, visit www.crescentphx.com, or head to Chow Bella at www.blogs.phoenixnewtimes.com/bella for details. Janessa Hilliard

Phoestivus Market

You know when something's rooted in a Seinfield joke, it's gonna be good. The fourth annual Phoestivus Market proves it. How could this sitcom-to-Phoenix-tradition festival not be the place to be when they've got over a hundred local vendors, basically every cuisine you could want served out of a truck, the freedom to take your beer throughout the entire market this year, a raffle, and a Phoestivus Pole? Oh, want to make it clear just how much the holidays bug you? Just head over to the Airing of Grievances booth and let the whole market know from 4 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, December 17, at the Downtown Phoenix Public Market, 721 North Central Avenue. Looking For Tsosido

There's something about nature that causes us to become self-reflective. Whether it's the feeling of being so small in the midst of ancient natural creations or the sometimes-unsettling quiet that comes in the middle of a landscape, we don't know, but we find ourselves looking within. Steven J. Yazzie uses hiking Sis' najinni, a sacred Navajo mountain in Colorado, to explore this introspective world in his 2013 film, Looking For Tsosido. The film is part of a one-night video installation showcasing Arizona as "an immersive environment" from the Museum of Walking, Yazzie and Angela Ellsworth's creative residency at the Livery Studio Space, 3802 North Brown Avenue in Scottsdale, on Thursday, December 18, from 7 to 9 p.m. For more information about the free event, visit www.scottsdalepublicart.org. The Midnight Society

It's finally chilly enough to get a good fire going and to spin some yarns with some good friends. The spooky kids of the Theater 13 film collective want to bring the fun indoors by screening episodes of the classic Nickelodeon series Are You Afraid of The Dark? on Friday, December 19. The Canada-based show focused on a group of kids who'd gather regularly to tell ghost stories and other tales of creepiness, and passed on the mysterious vibes to viewers.

Theater 13 presents The Midnight Society, an evening around the campfire with Are You Afraid of The Dark? at FilmBar, 815 North Second Avenue in Phoenix, at 11:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. To purchase tickets in advance or for more information, visit www.thefilmbarphx.com. Jose Gonzalez
