Bring out the paint brushes and whip up the pancake batter. The Pancakes and Booze Art Show is making its biannual trip to Phoenix. Founded and produced by Angeleno Tom Kirlin, this all-you-can-eat food and art spectacular is held in major cities across the country, including Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Brooklyn, Portland, Dallas, and Atlanta.

This special night will feature more than 50 local and emerging artists, live performances, DJs including DJ Adidas, live body painting, and, of course, a pancake bar complete with all the fixings: bananas, blueberries, strawberries, and chocolate, to name a few. The Pancakes and Booze Art Show returns Friday, March 28, to The Duce, 525 South Central Avenue. Now that we have your attention (if not, what are you even doing here?), here goes: Franco stars with Catherine Keener in Maladies, about a young actor in 1960s New York who visits the oceanside home of a friend to process some instability (of the identity and behavioral variety). Franco's character here inspired his stint on General Hospital -- "James" was a soap star before he broke down.
Multimedia artist Carter created this, his second feature, influenced by films such as Grey Gardens, A Woman Under the Influence, and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? "Maybe we should call the movie People in a House," he says in the press release.

And those folks will turn out in abundance for this year's Modern Phoenix Week.
The design-focused celebration gets going on Saturday, March 29, with a 1 p.m. tour ($19.56) of Scottsdale's Hotel Valley Ho, 6850 East Main Street, led by concierge Ace Bailey. The following Saturday, April 5, promises a Modern Marketplace at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, jam-packed with lectures, pop-up shops, and plenty of time to rub elbows with fellow Haver, Beadle, and Drake aficionados. Paolo Soleri: Citizen of the Planet will premiere that afternoon at 2:30 p.m.
The modernist event schedule wraps with Sunday, April 6's Modern Phoenix Home Tour, which features homes in Arcadia and sold out long ago. Better luck next time, MoPhos. Put away the ballet slippers and tap shoes because this isn't your average dance performance. Contemporary Japanese performance duo Eiko & Koma are taking their acclaimed elemental choreography from New York to Arizona with Regeneration, a three-part retrospective of some of their most notable works. This performance will showcase four decades worth of innovative movement with signature works including Raven, Night Tide, and White Dance. Eiko and Koma's bold theatrical gestures and ability to manipulate stillness, shape, light, and sound, have won them two Bessies, a Guggenheim, a MacArthur Genius Grant, a United States Artists Fellowship, a Samuel H. Scripps American Dance Festival Award, and a Dance Magazine Award.

Windsor Square Home and Garden Tour
Get ready for some real estate envy. It's time for the Windsor Square Historic District Home and Garden Tour at Central and Camelback to open up 10 showcase-ready homes and two residential gardens. In addition to the door-to-door detour, there will also be 27 craft vendors, a beer garden from SunUp Brewery, and food trucks including Short Leash Hot Dogs and Luncha Libre Gourmet Street Food.
Although the homes on the tour are within walking distance, there will also be bike racks set up in front of each stop and courtesy transportation provided by Ollie the Trolley. Windsor Square Historic District Home and Garden Tour returns Sunday, March 30, and kicks off at the intersection of Orange and Second streets. The self-guided tour runs from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are available online and the day of the event for $13. Maps and guide books will be provided.
