When we last put the spotlight on 100 creative forces in Phoenix, it was no secret there were more than 100 individuals who were making waves in the local arts community. So as we count down to our annual Best of Phoenix issue, we're profiling 100 more. Welcome (back) to 100 Creatives
Lindsay Tingstrom is a full-time freelance graphic designer. When her creative trio SeeSaw Designs parted ways last year, she created Acorn & Whale, where she continues to letterpress when she's not teaching design at ASU or fulfilling her constant need to travel.
I came to Phoenix with . . . my parents when I was 2 years old. I left for a few years but came back in 2003 for a design degree from ASU and a boy (now my husband).
I make art because . . . I don't know that, as a designer, I would say that I make art. To me, design is more about problem solving. If I come at it from the "artist" perspective, it gets to be too much about me.
I'm most productive when . . . I'm under a deadline, I've overcommitted myself, or late at night when a glass of wine is involved.
My inspiration wall is full of . . . Lots of color and texture. Paint swatches, bits of paper and photos. Random things that I pick up that probably look like trash to a lot of people.
I've learned the most from . . . Struggling through a design problem. Asking questions and always being curious. The people I've worked with. The four majors, three schools and seven years it took to get my degree.
Good work should always . . . solve the problem and look great.
The Phoenix creative scene could use more . . . effort on the part of its citizens (hey, that's us!) to get out and do and see and experience what Phoenix has to offer.
