Drive down 16th street between Thomas and Jefferson and you'll take in more than just the sights and smells of of dulcerias, carnicerias, and a full spectrum of Mexican restaurants. Calle 16 is the road where art borders on action, as artists illustrate the ongoing struggles, injustices, emotions, and influences behind immigration reform.

On Tuesday, October 15, Phoenix-based Mexican-American artist La Muñeca and international Oaxaca, Mexico-based artist Yescka will team up for a one-night-only pop-up show entitled "Wallspeak." Using La Muñeca's painted wheatpastes and Yescka's graffiti, paint, woodcut, and stencil media, this show aims to illustrate "the visible and non-visible borders of oppression."

In addition to the works on display, this free event will also feature live performances, music, and refreshments. "Wallspeak: ¡Prohibido olvidar! ¡Hay que hablar!" is on display October 15 from 8 to 10 p.m. at The Hive gallery. For more information, visit the event on Facebook.
