Listen up artists, because this may be the closest you'll ever get to legally printing your own money. The U.S. Mint has put out a national call to artists to create some serious change in this country -- literally.

Teaming up with the National Endowment for the Arts, the U.S. Mint has announced it is once again taking submissions for its Artistic Infusion Program (AIP).
The program selects up to 20 artists to create designs for U.S. coins and medals, with past examples including the 50 States Quarters Program, American the Beautiful Quarters Program, and the Presidential $1 Coins.
If selected, artists will receive a one-year contract (with the potential for an additional five-year extension) to submit designs for coins or medals commissioned by the Mint. In addition to being paid a fee for each commission, artists will also receive $5,000 for every time their submitted design is chosen for a particular coin or medal.
Interested applicants must fulfill certain requirements including having U.S. citizenship, at least five years experience or certified training in the arts, and a portion of income derived from employment in the arts.
Initial deadline for submissions is January 10, 2014, at 9:59 p.m. Arizona time. The NEA and the Mint will host a free webinar on December 11 from 2 to 3 p.m. Arizona time explaining the program and how to apply.
