There will be no smocks, wheels or kilns on Thursday evening when celebrated ceramicist Ann Agee visits ASU; she'll be giving a survey of her career and answering questions about her work as part of a speaker series open to the public.
Agee is well known for her work with porcelain, which often dipicts family life and domesticity with witty and clever twists. In her piece Agee Manufacturing Co. (pictured above), she gives her traditional European-type figures modern-day clothing (including halter tops and flip flops) and portrays them in modern, daily scenarios.
Agee's talk will be the latest installment of the ASU Art Museum Ceramics Research Center's Jan Fisher Memorial series.

Agee was recently invited to create an installation responding to the collections at the Philadelphia Museum of Art (pictured right). She's received degrees in fine art from the Yale School of Art and The Cooper Union School of Art and has shown in galleries nationwide.
The speaker series was named for Jan Fisher, an art history graduate student who died in 2006. It aims to bring emerging and established female ceramic artists to interact with the community and with students in the ceramics program.
Agee will speak in room 170 of the Lattie F. Coor Building on ASU's Tempe Campus at 7:30 p.m.. There will be a reception following her presentation.
