There's nothing like love to justify that half-gallon of ice cream at 11 a.m. or the splurge on the heavily discounted day-after-Valentine's-Day chocolate. Everybody has a few stories of romance and disaster around the day dedicated to love, but if you're interested in hearing stories from kickass writers that tie our two greatest loves -- food and the warm fuzzy stuff, of course -- mark your calendars.
On February 12 at 7 p.m., our sister blog, Chow Bella will present Candy Hearts, its second reading event at Crescent Ballroom in downtown Phoenix.

Participating writers include best-selling author and Jackalope Ranch columnist Laurie Notaro, Jackalope Ranch contributors Cynthia Clark Harvey, Katie Johnson, Julie Peterson, and Deborah Sussman, as well as Elizabeth Maria Naranjo, Judy Nichols, New Times theater critic Robrt Pela, Sativa Peterson, Kim Porter, Eric Schaefer, New Times managing editor Amy Silverman, and Kathy West.
Listen to tales from writers, tunes from Phoenix New Times' music editor, Jason Woodbury, and grab a snack from Cocina 10. Admission to the event is free, though we'd love it if you'd bring a canned good or two to benefit St. Mary's Food Bank.
