Take heed, superheroes, superheroines, sci-fi cosplayers, and costumed geeks of the Valley -- the City of Tempe is in need of your services tomorrow afternoon for a special mission.

Just like Commissioner Gordon firing up the Bat-Signal to cajole The Dark Knight into service, Tempe's city officials have put out a call to local costuming enthusiasts in the hopes of recruiting them to their cause. More specifically, they're searching for cosplayers to feature in the promotional trailer for the annual Geeks' Night Out and Geek Week events that's shooting on Friday at the Tempe Center for the Arts.

The video shoot is scheduled to run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the location. It's the third time in as many years that the city is creating a trailer for their nerd-friendly event, which will take place from February 14 to February 24 at venues along Mill Avenue and across Tempe. As in year's past, footage of local cosplayers will be included in the humorously over-the-top trailer, a previous example of which you can see below.

This year's shoot, however, will involve an epic plot of sorts involving two homegrown superheroes named Blue Bolt and Flying Fox, both of whom were created by the faculty and alumni of Tempe's University of Advancing Technology (which is producing the Geeks' Night Out trailer) for the comedy web series Zero Complex.

According to City of Tempe's press release, the Geeks' Night Out trailer boasts the working title Mega Force Field vs. Flying Fox and Blue Bolt and will feature the heroes and local cosplayers attempting to "save Tempe from a super force field."

Although all manner of cosplayers and costumes are welcome, the press release states that science fiction-themed costumes are "highly encouraged" and "will get extra attention" (read: a better chance of being featured prominently in the video). The trailer is scheduled to debut online before the end of the month.

Participants are also encouraged to hang out at the TCA after the shoot for the center's weekly Finally Friday event from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the lounge, which includes live music and free appetizers (with the purchase of a beverage). And you can keep wearing your costume to boot, provided it hasn't been thrashed by that force field.

The Geeks' Night Out promo video shoot takes place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday at the Tempe Center of the Arts. Participation is free. See the City of Tempe's site for more info.
