If during movies you find yourself rooting for the replicants of the world, instead of the Rick Deckards, there's a fair chance you'll make friends at DarkCon. The annual Arizona-based sci-fi and fantasy convention puts a grittier spin on the typical super-hero-laden pop culture powwow.

This year, the 'con is geared toward the cyberpunk genre, home of the aforementioned baddies and good guy of Blade Runner, with some steampunk embedded for good measure. Attendees can expect a full schedule of celebrity appearances (including Adrian Paul of Highlander fame), gaming, films, parties, and workshops from Thursday, January 9, through Sunday, January 12, at the Phoenix Airport Marriott, 1101 North 44th Street. Thursday begins with a film fest at 6 p.m. and wraps with a gala starting at 9.

Tickets to DarkCon range from $50 to $200, and workshops and classes may cost extra. For a full schedule and to register for the event, visit www.darkcon.org.
