There's still a ton of time before classes pick back up and your friends are back in town from vacation, which means plenty of downtime for creativity.

Here are five local opportunities ...

Dia de los Muertos: A Celebration of Life Exhibition @ Xico
Xico, a local arts organization created by local Chicano and Native American artists, is looking for artists to add pieces to their A Celebration of Life Festival and exhibition from September 24 to November 5.

1. Munny and Dunny show @

Blue Guitar Magazine, a publication that typically showcases creative writing (and poetry in previous years), has opened two competitions for their Summer 2011 edition: a call to writers and a call to artists.

The deadline for entires runs through July 15 and are free. While the call to writers is open to all forms of writing, the magazine has asked the art to be limited to "nature images." To submit or for information, contact Rebecca Dyer

5. Imagine PHX
We're still accepting entries for our Imagine PHX series, which includes creative representations of Phoenix.

Submissions can be in a variety of media -- photography, painting, sculpture, video, installation, literary -- all we ask is for a file (.jpg, link video, text of literary), accompanied by artist information and a small description of why the work relates to Phoenix. Submissions can be sent to [email protected] by August 1.
