The way films come and go, in and out of theaters, usually it's easier to miss a movie than catch it. That makes planning ahead a must when it comes to moviegoing in the Valley. That's also why we've handpicked five must-see flicks screening this month to add to the ol' planner.

Monster Mash Up in 3-D @ AMC Mesa Grand 24 Halloween's a-brewing, and we're already ready to binge on candy and dress up. Thankfully, we can get into the spooky spirit a little early with a double feature of Tim Burton flicks Frankenweenie (think Frankenstein-meets-puppies and in black-and-white stop-motion) and The Nightmare Before Christmas (of which, in all unashamed honesty, we own a deluxe, box-set version that we watch on both Halloween and Christmas) in 3-D on Thursday, October 4.

Nightmare begins at 10:30 p.m. and Frankenweenie premières at midnight at AMC Mesa Grand 24. Tickets are $15 and include a limited edition lanyard.Beetlejuice @ Pollack Tempe Cinemas More Tim Burton? Yes, dummy. So much Tim Burton. It's October after all. And Beetlejuice is a bona fide classic that we'd be happy to (and do) watch regardless of the season. Why? Here's why. Hot Alec Baldwin. Hilarious Michael Keaton. Dour Winona Ryder. Catharine O'Hara. There are so many reasons to love Beetlejuice (and our parents for letting us watch it when it was probably not age-appropriate to do so).

Cult Classics screens the ghost-with-the-most flick, complete with posters, DVD, Blu-ray, and toy raffles, at Pollack Tempe Cinemas on Friday, October 5, at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $11 to $30.The Queen of Versailles @ FilmBar Here's how it starts: Über-rich couple David, a and Jackie Siegel embark on the construction of the largest home in America (a 90,000 square-foot mansion modeled after the Paris hotel in Vegas -- really, how nouveau riche can ya get?) at the beginning of Lauren Greenfield's The Queen of Versailles. Soon, construction is halted due to a nosediving economy. What ensues is an all-American tale of a big family with even bigger money problems.

Catch 21-plus showings of The Queen at FilmBar daily from Thursday, October 4, through Wednesday, October 10. Tickets to the 21-plus screenings are $7. Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel @ Harkins Step aside, Anna Wintour. We all know that the prototype for fashion editor queen bee is Diana Vreeland, who helmed Harper's Bazaar for 25 years before bringing her sharp eye and passion for the arts to Vogue as editor-in-chief. This documentary explores Vreeland's life, from humble beginnings to clubbing with Cher, and her impact on the world of fashion.

The doc opens on Friday, October 12, at Harkins.Halloween @ Harkins For those willing to venture outside what are essentially children's Halloween flicks, there's John Carpenter's 1978 slasher classic, Halloween. For thrills, suspense, and a lot of Jamie Lee Curtis screaming because a murderous crazy dude is stalking her, head to Harkins Arizona Mills 25 on Thursday, October 25.
