We often say "kids" as a term of endearment here on Jackalope Ranch.
But this time, it's to be taken literally.
Phoenix Sister Cities wants artists and authors age 13 to 18 to submit works for the International Young Artists and Authors Competition.
The year's theme is called, "Shaping Your Community for a Greener Future."
Sure, your teenager may think the theme is lame (we kinda do)
but it's a chance for budding creatives to show their work at the Irish
Cultural Center during the March First Friday Art Walk and, for an
extended time, at the Phoenix City Hall atrium.
Read on after the jump to learn more.
One selected grand prize winner will be entered into the Sister Cities International Young Artists and Authors Showcase in Washington, D.C. where they'll have the chance to be nationally published and receive a $1,000 cash award.
Here are the details:
*Art pieces must use watercolors, oils, pastels, pen and ink, charcoal or mixed media
*Artwork must be two-dimensional and no larger than 24 x 30 inches
*Art must be mounted of foam core or matted
*Written pieces may be poems that do not exceed 40 lines
*All entries must express relationship to the theme
Deadline is Thursday, February 10, at 3 p.m.
Anyone who lives in Phoenix or the nine sister cities is eligible to enter.
