When we heard that Performance in the Borderlands was teaming up with ASU Deer Valley Rock Art Center once again, with the added collaboration of ASU's Gammage's BEYOND series, we knew there was cause for celebration.

In an event scheduled for the end of this month, Japanese performance artists Eiko & Koma "will create an interactive outdoor experience for audiences, using their unique and riveting choreography of stillness to explore the poetic dimensions of the desert," according to a press release. Desert Sightings is being performed one day only, but the event is free to the public.

Last October, Mary Stephens of Performance in the Borderlands (and a finalist for this year's Big Brain Awards) and Casandra Hernandez of ASU Deer Valley Rock Art Center brought us Desierto Remix in hopes of reimagining and reinterpreting the desert through performance art.

Desert Sightings was born with the same goal in mind. Eiko & Koma will be interacting with the outdoor space in their signature bold, theatrical style. The ASU Deer Valley Rock Art Center is an archeological site and Sonoran Desert Preserve -- so the performance space itself guarantees an exciting experience.

You can catch Desert Sightings on Sunday, March 23, from 4 to 6 p.m. at the ASU Deer Valley Rock Art Center. The performance is free to the public, and light refreshments will be provided. For more information, visit the Facebook event page.

Eiko & Koma are also performing a three-part retrospective Regeneration at Gammage on March 29 at 7 p.m.. Tickets can be purchased from the Gammage Box Office or from asugammage.com/
