Phoenix Fashion Week's 2014 emerging designers are about to emerge just a skosh more.

The group of 14 up-and-coming designers and labels from across the country has been working through an educational program and competition in which they learn how to build successful brands with the help of Phoenix Fashion Week. About a month into the process, the designers will show off a preview of their progress during a shopping and fashion show event at 7 p.m. Friday, August 8, at Hotel Valley Ho in Scottsdale.

The event, dubbed Shop Garment District, is one aspect of the emerging designer competition, which includes a four-month bootcamp program of classes and challenges. One winner will be determined at the end of Phoenix Fashion Week based on both the label's progress and probability for success in design and business -- and how well they perform throughout bootcamp. The winner receives a prize package that comprises goods and services to help launch their brand that's valued at $10,000.

Emerging designers will present pieces both in a marketplace setting, where shoppers will be able to purchase wares, and a fashion show, during which competitors in Phoenix Fashion Week's emerging model competition will walk the runway.

Designers will show their complete collections during Phoenix Fashion Week at Talking Stick Resort from Wednesday, October 1, through Saturday, October 4.
