Pack a sandwich -- tomorrow's lunch plans may get whole lot artsier.
The Phoenix Office of Cultural Affairs, Arizona Commission on the Arts and the Herberger Institute School of Art are hosting free webinars (live broadcast seminars) covering the "How To"s of public art.
There will be three events total (September 29, October 13, and November 3). As a whole, the series will focus on all aspects of public art -- how to select, apply for, plan, design, budget and build public art projects.
Part one, Making the Transition from Studio Artist to Public Artist, is set for tomorrow at 11 a.m. More details after the jump ...
Part one of the series will be at the Nursing and Health Innovation Building (auditorium room 110), 550 N. 3rd St., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m..
Presenters Steven Huss, Amy Trachtenberg, and Steven Rodriquez will dish on what artists need to jump from studio to large, public scale, including the ups and downs of a collaborative process, letter and application hints and previous experiences of artists who have worked in the public sector.
Part two, "Getting Started" will be in the same place and same time, on Oct. 13, and will cover the major differences between studio and collaborative/public work (time schedule, budget and creative process).
And part three, "Developing the Design; Working with Materials and Budgets" is scheduled for Nov. 3, at the A.E.England Building, 424 N. Central Ave. The final webinar will focus on the maintainance, durability and presentation of public works (and the associated costs).
