One new idea for every day in 2011. We're talking big, small, local, international, in action and on the drawing board. Here's today's -- what's yours?

Scottsdale Public Art (and every other public art organization in the country) is facing budget cuts and a changing economic environment, and instead of backing down, it's going public.

In June, the organization launched Place Odyssey, a national, public place for discussion for the future of public art.

SPA members write that the project's ultimate goal is "to create a new model that can sustain and stabilize public art programs for the future.

Where do we go from here?"

Public art programs are traditionally funded by percentages of municipal construction budgets, and as city governments cut back on building projects, the money left for public art dwindles.

SPA's looking to the local and national public art audience for discussion and ideas on local, ephemeral, installation, and event-based projects that can still support and create community. Board members will be introducing questions and topics in the coming weeks in the online forum.
