It's summertime, and that means it's hopelessly hot outside. Which, in turn, means we want to stay inside. That may soon change because businesses along Roosevelt Row are looking to lure you away from the comfort of your air conditioning with "Vampire Hours" this summer. These extended nighttime hours will be in effect from Friday, June 6, through Monday, September 1, to give people in Phoenix a way to still enjoy all the area has to offer -- without the misery of the midday sun, get it?

"The summer is actually a time when many shift their schedules to experience the uniqueness Phoenix has to offer after dark. Vampire Hours will be a great way for residents and visitors to explore our arts district any night of the week," says Nicole Underwood, director of operations for Roosevelt Row CDC. Many of the businesses in the area will be staying open from 4 to 9 p.m. or later.

Those who choose to take advantage of these new Vampire Hours will have a lot of options when it comes to what they want to see and do. Such establishments as Made Boutique, Black N Blue, Annie Boomer Vintage, Monorchid, Lawn Gnome Books, Bud's Glass Joint, Fifth Street Paint Supply and Revolver Records.

And many restaurants will be keeping their doors open late, too, including Welcome Diner, Carly's Bistro, and Short Leash Hot Dogs, among others.

"I think it's great," says Jared Cox, manager of Revolver Records. "I'm excited about the prospect of boosting the nightlife."

As an added bonus, those attending Phoenix Comicon this weekend, or anyone who just feels like dressing in costume, will get special deals on purchases made at participating Roosevelt Row businesses during Vampire Hours between Friday, June 6, and Sunday, June 8.

Vampire Hours are going on now through September 1 at Roosevelt Row in Phoenix. For more info and a complete list of participating businesses, visit www.rooseveltrow.org/vampirehours.
